The 2024 Michigan football roster will look different than Jim Harbaugh’s final squad, but the amount of talent remaining speaks to his acumen as a recruiter. Michigan has at least two players, cornerback Will Johnson and defensive lineman Mason Graham, who could be top-10 draft picks in 2025. Another, tight end Colston Loveland, could be the first off the board at his position. Michigan football camp 2024 has been about putting those talented pieces together with new starters at quarterback, offensive line and other spots for new head coach Sherrone Moore.

The Wolverines open the season on Aug. 31 against Fresno State, so how is the 2024 Michigan football depth chart shaping up? Top Michigan Wolverines practice storylines

The Michigan football quarterback battle has been one of the more intriguing ones in college football this fall. Opposing defenses were unable to stack the box against J.J. McCarthy like they had in prior years. McCarthy has moved on, and how Michigan settles the quarterback position could go a long way in determining if the Wolverines can return to the playoffs.

There’s no highly-experienced former starter in the battle, nor are there any former top-100 recruits. Alex Orji, however, has emerged from being classified as an “athlete” in high school to being the QB1 favorite. He’s trying to hold off former Indiana transfer Jack Tuttle, as well as Davis Warren, Jayden Denegal and Jadyn Davis. “They all have chips on their shoulders, and have been through the same anonymous grind as an unheralded backup,” David Shaw said of the QB battle. Get more updates on the Michigan QB at The Michigan Insider.

Michigan fans are also eager to see the new-look defense under Martindale. The long-time NFL assistant has ties to the Harbaugh family after working with John Harbaugh and the Ravens from 2012-21. Now he takes over for Jesse Minter, who followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers.
