Josh Brownhill, the captain of Burnley, is the subject of a contract dispute at Turf Moor and is certain to depart on a free agent next summer—that is, if they don’t sell in January. Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil is a huge fan of Brownhill.

Wolves have planned a low-budget £7 million January attack on Turf Moor in an attempt to get Josh Brownhill, the captain of Burnley.

Since taking over at Bournemouth, Brownhill, who is rated at £20 million by Burnley, has been liked by Molineux manager Gary O’Neill. As the winter transfer market opens, Wolves will prioritise signing the left-sided midfielder.

After spending £9 million to join the team from Bristol City, Bownhill, 27, is already well into the last year of his contract. Burnley is reportedly prepared to exercise a one-year option on the star player. However, O’Neill is adamant about signing the Clarets skipper either next month or in the summer, so they might have left it too late.

Early in the season, after Burnley acquired Norwegian international Sander Berge from Sheffield United, Bownhill lost the trust of manager Vincent Kompany. However, following his pivotal role in Burnley’s incredible Premier League comeback the previous season, Brownhill has returned to his former form as a vital member of Kompany’s squad, tallying three Premier League goals.

Although Brownhill is reportedly willing to go to Wolves, the hard-working star is also being pursued by Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Championship contenders Leicester.
