A West Ham supporter is in severe condition in hospital after apparently falling from the back of a moving minibus while in Cyprus for the Europa Conference League match against AEK Larnaca. The 38-year-old is currently at Nicosia General Hospital with brain injuries, and the vehicle’s driver has been arrested following a positive drug test.

Police have stated that they are investigating the incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the Paphos-Limassol route. Six persons were in the minibus at the time, and one was reported to have fallen out the back window while in possession of cocaine. He has been rushed to the hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on the scene after a preliminary drugs test revealed a positive result, but he was not drunk.

A police statement on the event read: “One of the 38-year-old passengers in the rear seat appears to have opened the car’s window and perched on it, causing him to lose his balance and tumble to the road.”

West Ham fans have traveled in large numbers to the Mediterranean island for the next leg of their European journey. The Hammers face AEK Larnaca as they attempt to build on last season’s run to the Europa League semi-finals by progressing in the Conference League.

David Moyes has revealed that he is looking forward to the challenge ahead, with the prospect of winning a trophy being a major motivator for him and his players.

“Winning any trophy as a manager or player is a rare opportunity,” he remarked. “Jose Mourinho demonstrated how much it meant to him; he is a serial winner. We desperately wanted to win the Europa League. We have a job to complete to go to the quarter-finals today, and I believe doing it two years in a row would be a huge accomplishment.”
