Reports state that Ben Hunt has dropped a bombshell by telling the Dragons he wants to leave the team.

NRL teams are on high alert after the captain of the club allegedly told executives of his position. St George is currently at the bottom of the ladder after a disastrous season that resulted in Anthony Griffin’s firing.

And even though the team signed Shane Flanagan this week, according to Channel 9’s Danny Weidler, Hunt isn’t happy with the club’s trajectory and wants to start over somewhere else.er is not impressed with new coach Shane Flanagan’s hiring.

Since then, Flanagan has stated to Fox Sports that he wants Hunt to stay at the club and believes that the request was made weeks ago, before his arrival.

“Well, from the standpoint of a club, Ben Hunt will be there,” Flanagan remarked of the superstar, who has a 2025 contract.

He has a contract. I talked to Ben before signing because I didn’t want to become the Dragons coach and then our halfback to want to leave the team. If I got the job, he was cool with all of that.

“Obviously, he’s in Origin camp right now. I won’t worry about him while he’s there; I’ll talk to him next week, and I’m sure that’s okay.”

However, from the standpoint of the team, “I won’t be letting him go anywhere because he’s our halfback and captain and we need him.”

Currently serving with Origin, Flanagan sees the 33-year-old as a crucial component of his rehabilitation.

“I had a meeting with him and discussed our relationship as well as my need for the club captain to assist me in recruiting and keeping players,” Flanagan stated.

“Talking with prospective players to join the club is very helpful,” he says in Origin.

“I’ll be handling recruitment and retention behind the scenes.”
