Leeds’ injury luck has been poor in recent years, with the club rarely fielding a full-strength side in the league.

Daniel Farke is experiencing these disappointing setbacks, though not to the same level as previous managers.

Farke said that Djed Spence would be sidelined for an extended amount of time due to a knee injury received after the September international break.

Spence made his club debut off the bench in a 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday and showed potential, but he will now have to wait until mid-November to make his next appearance.

The way in which Spence sustained the injury is not ideal, with Rob Price, Leeds’ head of medicine, describing it as a “freak event.”

Pilot who saved Leeds United team 24 years ago said that day 'never leaves my mind'

On the official Leeds United podcast, he discussed the events at Thorp Arch.

“Djed was quite unfortunate. He went into a challenge in training last week, and his foot slipped from underneath him, rupturing the lateral ligament in his knee.

“His foot slipped while he was in a challenge, someone fell on his leg and pushed him to a level where the ligament couldn’t take it, so it snapped, but what I would say about him, as with all of the players, is that his attitude toward doing what’s right and making sure he’s going to be okay has been first-rate.”

This pretty much sums up why one of our greatest players has been out for at least two months due to injury.

What is promising is that Price appears to be convinced that the initial timeline for his return is still within reach, and that he will be available for a vital run in November.

We must start Spence in the Championship as soon as he returns to form, since he will elevate our already terrifying attack to new heights.
