Martin Keown and Danny Murphy of Match of the Day slammed the decision to award a last-gasp penalty against Wolves yesterday.
Wolves fans are frustrated today after their team lost yesterday’s Premier League game at Bramall Lane in the final seconds.
Wolves fell behind to a Cameron Archer goal, but equalized through substitute Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
However, in the dying minutes, United were awarded a penalty for a ‘foul’ by Fabio Silva. However, replays revealed that George Baldock was already on the ground. Last weekend, Hwang Hee-chan and Fabian Schar were in a similar situation.
The penalty was scored by Oliver Norwood, and Wolves were defeated.
Wolves arguably did not deserve anything after a poor overall performance. But going against Gary O’Neil is yet another major decision.
Last night on Match of the Day, Keown and Murphy couldn’t hide their surprise at the latest gaffe…Martin Keown and Danny Murphy were stunned by the penalty decision in Wolves’ match against Bournemouth.
Since the game, referee Robert Jones’ penalty decision has been widely criticized. As has VAR Chris Kavanagh’s decision to uphold Jones’ on-field call.
Many fans agreed with Match of the Day host Gary Lineker when he said it was a “stinking decision.”
On Match of the Day, Keown and Murphy discussed the incident and couldn’t believe it was awarded and upheld by VAR.
“It happened last week,” Keown explained. We’ve played the game before, so we know he’s just trying to get out of it. It’s almost like déjà vu because it’s in the same section of the penalty box. He simply pulls out for me. Baldock appears to step outside of the ball’s path. He backs away from the challenge, showing no real force. To be honest, it’s incredible. And it has cost them any kind of outcome today.”
“It shows a lack of knowledge of the game,” Murphy added. The issue is that it encourages people to continue manipulating and diving. In reality, both penalties are two dives and two yellow cards. That is correct.”
Another embarrassing performance by the officials
Wolves fans are once again enraged by a refereeing decision that has cost the team points.
It’s incredible that this keeps happening, and something has to change.
Wolves could have finished in the top half of the table if some of this season’s decisions had gone their way.
It’s incomprehensible how one club can sting so many times. It is no longer enough for officials to be demoted from the Premier League, as was the case with Anthony Taylor following the Newcastle game.
