Forest overcame the odds last season to remain in the Premier League, having been promoted as Championship play-off winners the previous season.

After finishing four points ahead of the bottom three, the focus has quickly shifted to how they can avoid “second-season syndrome” and escape relegation in 2023/24.

Until date, much of the Nottingham-based club’s transfer business has been concentrated on outgoings, with players such as Jackand Jesse Lingard leaving after their contracts expired at City Ground.

But one player Steve Cooper and his team are looking to sign is Iheanacho, who is rumored to be looking to leave Leicester City after being demoted last season.

Foot Mercato claims that discussions between the two teams have already begun, with the Nigerian international at the top of the Tricky Trees’ target list.Iheanacho joined Leicester from Manchester City in August 2017, with the club spending an initial £25 million for his services.

The striker went on to score 55 goals for the East Midlands club in 206 games, but Jones believes he must now make a decision regarding his future.

According to transfer insider Jones, Iheanacho must now decide if he wants to stay in the Championship with Leicester or challenge himself to return to the top flight with Forest.

Jones added of the 26-year-old, “It seems like they’re trying to make it happen.” I mean, if he and Morgan Gibbs-White can get along, Iheanacho might be a huge asset to the Forest team.

“He might maybe score a lot in the Championship with Leicester, but if he wants to stay in the Premier League and is prepared to take a bet on Forest and their model, I believe they will pay whatever it takes to acquire him right now.

Cooper will be eager to wrap up his business as quickly as possible after a hectic transfer window last summer so that he can focus on the task ahead.

Forest will kick off their 2023/24 Premier League season away to title contenders Arsenal on August 12th, followed by a home encounter against newcomers Sheffield United.

Then comes a challenging period before the first international break of the season, when Forest face Chelsea and Manchester United in back-to-back games.

And it’s likely that Forest fans will want to see Iheanacho in the garibaldi red before the season begins in mid-August.
