The Buffalo Bills are in free agency after dismissing many veterans and restructuring numerous contracts. However, Bills general manager Brandon Beane still needs to do some work to achieve cap compliance.

According to OvertheCap.com, the Bills are approximately $2.2 million over the $255.4 million cap ceiling. Analysts were astonished when a recent rumor linked the Bills to Arik Armstead, a former San Francisco 49ers player.

After the Niners officially released Armstead on Wednesday, March 13, The Athletic’s Matt Barrows wrote on X, “Keep an eye on Buffalo as a possible landing spot.”

With a release after June 1, the 49ers save $18 million in cap space for 2024 while incurring $10.31 million in dead money. Regarding the many vacant years remaining on Armstead’s deal, “The franchise will eat $15.4 million over the next three years,” Niners Nation stated. However, they will save $26 million in cap space.

It would be a tremendous coup for the Bills to sign the 6-foot-7, 290-pound interior lineman. Armstead’s six tackles and one sack against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl are sure to appeal to Beane. He has 27 total tackles, 13 quarterback hits, and 5 sacks in 12 regular-season games last year.

Cover 1 host Anthony Prohaska wrote, “The notion of Arik Armstead playing in a rotation with Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones is insane. And we know how much [Bills head coach Sean] McDermott and Beane believe in developing the defensive line.”

However, the 30-year-old’s injury history may cause Beane to reconsider banking the bank for him. He missed 13 games during the last two seasons. He missed several games in 2022 due to a foot fracture and plantar fasciitis, according to SI. This season, the Oregon alum suffered from foot issues once again.

According to Diana Russini of The Athletic, multiple teams, including the Tennessee Titans, are interested in signing Armstead. Barrows also mentioned that the Los Angeles Chargers could be in the mix.
