Remove those old records from the shelf and get Howie Roseman some sunglasses. While some NFL general managers (Jerry Jones) plan to coast through the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles are all about risky business.

Roseman hasn’t been afraid to add big name, big money players to the team’s roster, either through free agency or trade. Each has immense potential but also carries significant danger.

Here’s why Eagles fans should be concerned about the team’s recent moves:

When healthy, Barkley could be the NFL’s best running back. The Giants selected him second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he earned Offensive Rookie of the Year accolades with 15 touchdowns and 2,028 total yards.

In six seasons, Barkley has 5,211 yards rushing and 2,100 yards receiving, as well as two Pro Bowl selections. Imagine what he could have done if he had stayed healthy.

Because of various injuries, the Pennsylvania native has missed 25 games in the last six years. He’s done much better since an ACL tear cost him all but two games in 2020, but at 27 years old, Barkley’s injury history may come back to haunt him.

Breaking Down the Eagles' Free Agency Signings!

By awarding Barkley a three-year, $37.5 million contract with $26 million

Huff had one strong season with the Jets after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He had 29 tackles and 10 sacks last year, after 36 tackles and 7.5 sacks the previous three years.

For $51 million with $34.4 guaranteed, those figures should be Huff’s floor, and his snap count should be better. Despite his career-high 480 snaps in 2023, Huff played only 42% of the team’s defensive plays.

In comparison, Haason Reddick has 11 sacks but was on the field for 74% of Philadelphia’s defensive plays. He may not be with the team next year.

Barkley, when healthy, has the potential to be the best running back in the NFL. The Giants drafted him second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year after scoring 15 touchdowns and accumulating 2,028 total yards.

In six seasons, Barkley has 5,211 yards rushing and 2,100 yards receiving, as well as two Pro Bowl appearances. Imagine what he could have accomplished if he had remained healthy.

Due to various injuries, the Pennsylvania native has missed 25 games over the last six years. Barkley has performed considerably better since an ACL tear robbed him all but two games in 2020, but at 27 years old, his injury history may come back to haunt him.

Barkley was awarded a three-year, $37.5 million contract worth $26 million.

The Eagles have 18 free agents set to hit the open market. How different will the 2023 roster look?

White may have won a Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl, but the former Buccaneer just had a miserable season. His 83 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2023 were both career lows, but Roseman still offered him a one-year, $7.5 million contract.

Tampa Bay stopped putting White on the field in Week 15, benching their captain in a crucial game against the Packers. Philadelphia needs an off-ball linebacker, but White’s performance will be critical in improving a defense that allowed 26.8 points per game last season, the second-highest in the league.
