The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night by a score of 5-3. Milwaukee won the first game the day before and Sunday will serve as the rubber match between the two organizations. During the second game of the series there were a few firsts that occurred.

William Contreras did not start at catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.

For the first time during the 2024 season William Contreras was not behind the dish. He was still in the lineup as the designated hitter, but it was Gary Sanchez who caught for starting pitcher DL Hall and the bullpen. Per Mike Vassallo Contreras previously had been the only MLB catcher to start each of his team’s games this year.

Entering Saturday’s game no player had successfully stolen a base against the Brewers. That changed when Dylan Moore swiped second base off of DL Hall and Gary Sanchez. Sanchez had a poor throw to second base that nearly took Hall out. Additionally Sanchez’s throw required a hop in the grace to get to second base.

To start the year Milwaukee not only has injury concerns regarding their starting rotation, but they also have not received good depth/inning coverage. DL Hall helped shift that narrative a little bit in this contest as he became the first Brewers pitcher outside of Freddy Peralta to pitch into the sixth inning.

The Brewers and Mariners will play one more game against one another this series. Sunday’s finale has a 1:10 PM CT first pitch.
