Chris Steele, a rookie cornerback for Florida, is leaving the team.

The college transfer portal now has the former five-star recruit’s name on it. According to a person with knowledge of the matter who spoke with The Sun, Steele spoke with UF coach Dan Mullen on Wednesday night and told him.

According to the source, Steele made a request to the staff during his first month on campus, which led to the decision. Because he didn’t feel comfortable sharing a dorm room with his roommate, quarterback Jalon Jones, he requested to be relocated.

The source said that Steele and his parents were upset because the staff had not intended to move Steele until the summer.

Then, on April 6, two female students accused Jones of sexually assaulting them in their dorm rooms. That made

Jones has left the school but has not been charged.

The Florida football team did not provide an official statement on Steele’s intention to transfer on Thursday.

At the All-American Bowl on January 5, Steele made his commitment to the Gators, and the following week, he enrolled early. It was anticipated that he would have an instant impact this season after receiving his first reps in the spring.

At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Steele was the highest-rated recruit in UF’s 2019 class, with a five-star rating from Rivals.com and a consensus top-50 ranking.

Originating from Bellflower, California’s St. John Bosco High School, he was Florida’s first signee from California since 2010.
