Inter Miami appears committed to getting things going right away. The

Herons are still adding big names to their squad in preparation for the new

season. Similar to that, Kamal Miller has formally split from Lionel Messi and

his group, which has given the Florida-based squad new life just before the

2024 campaign gets underway. Just a few hours earlier, Miami revealed that

they had sold the center back to the Portland Timbers.

General Allocation Money (GAM) of $625,000 has been given to David

Beckham’s soccer team; $500,000 will be given in 2024 and the remaining

$125,000 in 2025. Additionally, Kamal Miller’s departure opens up a spot on

the 2024 roster for an international player, thus they may be able to add

another foreign talent.

The team will retain a percentage of any potential future transfer payments if

the defender signs with a non-MLS team. Additionally, the team can receive an

extra $150,000 in GAM if Miller hits specific performance targets. Notably,

the Canadian international left CF Montréal and landed at DRV PNK Stadium

in April of this year. When he played for Miami, he made seven appearances in

35 games and had a big impact.

Miller’s transfer will bring him back together with Phil Neville, the former

Inter Miami manager who became Portland’s head coach in early November.

All things considered, this is a wise decision for all concerned. Tata Martino

would have to sign Miller’s replacement in the interim. Given that they have a

name on the table already, it appears that they are one step ahead.
