It is officially announced that Mike Zimmer will take over as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

Nevertheless, it appears like the Cowboys almost reversed direction at the last minute, even though the announcement was made last week.

The agreement between the Cowboys and former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer to become Dallas’ next defensive coordinator has not yet been formalized, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter in an interview on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today.

Additionally, Schefter stated that he could attest to Dallas getting in touch with ESPN commentator Rex Ryan again to inquire on his status at work.

The former head coach of the Jets and Bills expressed doubt about Zimmer’s chances of winning the Cowboys defensive coordinator position during his interview on Sunday, just before the Super Bowl, despite Schefter’s story from last week.

Ryan made consecutive conference championship berths in his first two seasons with the Jets in 2009 and 2010, but things took a turn for the worst after that.Sadly for Ryan, the Cowboys have officially moved on from him and selected Zimmer, therefore we will not have the chance to challenge them to a Conference title game.

In his eight years as head coach of the Vikings, Zimmer guided the team to a 72-56-1 record, three postseason trips, and one NFC Championship.
