April 14-The Minnesota Twins, who were on the road, finished a doubleheader

sweep of the Detroit Tigers on Saturday thanks to a 4-1 victory over the Tigers.

Simeon Woods Richardson, who had been brought up from the minors,

pitched six solid innings and recorded his first major league win.

Elevated from Triple-A St. Paul, Woods Richardson (1-0) allowed just one run

and two hits in five innings pitched. It was his third time playing in the main leagues.

three strikeouts without allowing a runner to reach base.

The Twins offense was led by Willi Castro, who blasted a two-run home run, and Edouard Julien, who contributed a solo shot.
The Twins scored seven runs in the top of the 12th inning to win the first game, 11–5.
Recalled from Triple-A Toledo, Matt Manning (0-1) started for the Tigers and

allowed four runs and five hits in six and a third innings. He recorded seven

strikeouts as well. The first two hits of Wenceel Perez’s major league career were hits.

The first two hitters Manning faced were walked. Julien was reached by Byron

Buxton’s sacrifice fly following a fielder’s choice.

In the bottom of the second, Detroit tied the game. Colt Keith walked and

Kerry Carpenter singled. After Carpenter was scored by Javier Baez with a

sacrifice fly, Perez reached on an infield hit to load the bases.

Jake Rogers flied out, but Perez stole second to put runners in scoring position.
In the third inning, Julien launched his fourth home run, giving the Twins a 2-

1 advantage.

In the sixth inning, the Twins increased their lead after the first two batters

struck out. Before Castro launched the opening pitch, a sweeping breaking

ball, over the right-center field wall, Austin Martin reached on a bloop single.

It was the season’s first long ball for him.

With Matt Vierling hit and Perez doubled to put runners in scoring position in

the seventh, the Tigers had a chance. After that, Baez grounded out to end the

inning against Sands.
