Clement Lenglet was acquired by Aston Villa during the summer transfer period.

After Mings became injured, Villa recruited Lenglet on a loan to fill in defence, although he hasn’t been very effective thus far.
Lenglet may not have required a transfer fee, but Villa should be wary of his exorbitant salary.
Pedro Neto of Wolves may be a target for Villa, although competition from other teams may make it tough.

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Sunday People columnist Neil Moxley outlined the logic for bringing in Aston Villa defender Clement Lenglet, despite saying it wasn’t a good decision. Lenglet has yet to play in the Premier League this season.

After Villa qualified for the Europa Conference League, Unai Emery sought to assemble a more rounded team.

On the final day of the summer transfer window, Villa completed the loan signing of Lenglet from Catalan powerhouse Barcelona, according to MailOnline. Tyrone Mings had a severe knee injury that might put him in the hospital for an extended amount of time, prompting Villa to look for a replacement player. Lenglet hasn’t played a single minute in England’s top division; Emery has relied primarily on Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa at the defence.

This season, the Barcelona loanee has had the opportunity to make an impression in Europe, but Moxley has told GIVEMESPORT that the Frenchman has looked’miles off the pace’ when playing for the Midlands club. Even though Lenglet hasn’t yet agreed to a permanent contract, he is apparently making roughly £150,000 per week at Villa Park, so it doesn’t seem like Emery and his recruitment staff made the best financial decision.
