Scott, a summer transfer from Bristol City for an estimated £25 million, came to Vitality Stadium with a knee injury.
The Guernsey-born midfielder started the game before being replaced by Joe Rothwell after Lewis Cook was sent off.
Despite being rusty after an extended layoff, Scott did not appear out of place despite the Cherries’ 2-1 loss.
Iraola claimed that he considered deploying Scott as a replacement against Wolves, but decided against it since it was better for both the squad and the individual.
“We knew he couldn’t play 90 minutes,” said the Basque head coach. Our strategy was to play 45 minutes.
“He was doing okay, maybe 55, 60, something like that.” That’s what we assumed.
“I could go, probably to play 30 minutes with him (off the bench) in the second half.”
“However, I think with injuries, I prefer that they warm up with the team.”
“They have a proper warm-up, but they are alone there and have no idea when they leave.”
“And then we prefer to go this route because I believe we require this type of player in the middle.”
“I believe he gave us some energy.” He provided us with outstanding transitions while protecting the ball, and I believe he will be a valuable addition to the club.”
Cook’s punishment for aggressive behaviour means he’ll be out for at least three games, making Iraola’s midfield even thinner.
Tyler Adams, Scott’s fellow summer addition, has been ruled out until 2024 after undergoing hamstring surgery.
“It’s a huge loss for the next games because we are lacking Tyler Adams,” Iraola returned to the game.
“We’ll see how Alex feels after the game.”
“I think he finished very well and I hope he can play, but it’s a position probably where the things are happening in the negative way.”
