Despite the fact that this is the Hammers’ second European away game of the season, it is the first in which traveling fans will be permitted to support their team inside the stadium. This follows a ban for the Freiburg game following a missile strike to the head of a Fiorentina player in the Conference League final.

However, it is not just the Cockneys who must exercise caution, as Olympiakos’ previous match was called off after a firecracker struck an opposing player in the head.

It is reasonable to expect a brilliant but hostile atmosphere at a sold-out Karaiskakis stadium, with a West Ham victory all but confirming that they will advance from their group.

While David Moyes is looking forward to the occasion, he has warned fans to be respectful. “You want the passion and the atmosphere,” he told the press, according to whufc.com, “but we also want good behavior from our fans and Olympiacos fans.”

“It’s a big game, but it’s important that everyone works together and ends up having a good night.”

“You’re not doing your club any favours if you’re getting stadium bans or your team is getting thrown out of Europe,” he went on to say. Maybe he knows something we don’t about “getting kicked out of Europe,” but no one wants the club to be punished because of a few bad apples, so it’s critical that everyone stays safe and out of trouble.

Thousands of our ardent supporters have flocked to Athens to witness what promises to be a brilliant and intense match. These European nights are something that every fan fantasizes about; let us hope that no individuals ruin them for the rest of us.
