In their match against Hellas Verona on Saturday, Juventus came from very, very late to secure a winner through a late goal from Esteban Cambiasso in the final minute of extra time. With two goals by Moise Kean disallowed by VAR and several other good opportunities going awry, it was beginning to appear as though the Bianconeri were not having the best of nights.
Following the match, Massimiliano Allegri, the coach, stated :
“The most crucial factor was that the team performed in an organised manner and deserved this victory.” We steadily built it up, as the winner saw with one minute remaining. Miretti received the pass from Szczesny, followed by Gatti for a cross, Milik for a header, and Cambiaso.
“The boys performed well overall, and they continued to be sharp even in the end.”
Kean was pretty upset about the two calls that went against him and he was also booked, but he was much more upset when Federico Chiesa took his place.
“I felt that this was truly not his night, so get him off, even if he didn’t deserve to be substituted after two goals were given away and he was booked! Kean is a player who has significantly developed; both physically and psychologically, he has evolved.
Regarding the academy talent that he has been working with lately, what did he say?
“Kean is putting in a lot of effort in his training and has made significant progress in the past year. Kenan Yildiz is one of my weakness; he was offside on Milik’s assist tonight since he was so quick to enter the game. I like it when I see players produce that calibre of dummy because it is uncommon.
“Juventus has a group of true professionals who are aware of their shortcomings and are eager to make improvements. The club and academy have done a fantastic job over the past ten years of scouting and developing these players, and there are a tonne more who are on loan.
“But it’s crucial that the media maintains objectivity because some people are hailed as heroes one day and failures the next.”
With AC Milan playing Napoli and Inter Milan facing AS Roma, Juventus gains the lead in the Scudetto, if only momentarily.
