Eduardo Rodriguez could become a free agent this offseason.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Detroit Tigers southpaw is “expected to opt out with $49 million and three years remaining.” This despite the fact that Rodriguez allegedly “loves Detroit.”

He agreed to a five-year, $77 million contract with the team before the 2022 season.

Rodriguez is 12-9 with a 3.40 ERA in 25 starts in 2023.

It’s worth noting that Rodriguez vetoed a deadline deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rodriguez stated at the time that his decision had nothing to do with the Dodgers organization and that he was still unsure about his future.

“If I had a magic ball and could tell you what was going to happen in the future, I’d probably tell you right away,” he told reporters after vetoing the trade. “But for the time being, I’m here with this organization. I’ve been a member here for quite some time. I’m pleased with everything. My family is content in Detroit. I am pleased with my teammates and the organization as a whole. I’d really like to stay here, which is why I made that decision.”

Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Hyun-Jin Ryu are among the projected free agents.

Rodriguez would be an intriguing option for any team looking for a rotational piece. He had a sub-3.00 ERA before the deadline.
