According to a report, a West Ham forward is unhappy with his recent demotion under David Moyes and is considering joining a club where he will play much more regularly in January.
Over the summer, West Ham added only one new attacker to their squad: former Ajax star Mohammed Kudus. Despite the fact that the Ghana international cost around £38 million to sign, Kudus has been forced to sit out this season.
Instead, manager David Moyes has mostly relied on the attacking options he already had.
Michail Antonio leads the line again, while Jarrod Bowen returns to his best on the right wing. Lucas Paqueta will always get the nod wherever he plays, and he played wide left in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Everton.
Said Benrahma held that position early in the season, but the Algerian has fallen down the pecking order of late.
Indeed, he started three of West Ham’s first four league games this season. Since then, he’s come off the bench in four games and been an unused substitute in two others.
The relegation contrasts sharply with Benrahma’s 52 appearances in all competitions last season. The deft winger scored 12 goals, including a penalty kick in the Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina.
However, according to Algerian outlet Fennec Football, Benrahma is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with how he is being managed at West Ham.
Will Benrahma and West Ham part ways?
They claim that Benrahma ‘intends to make a radical decision’ in response to his recent lack of action.
According to the report, Benrahma has been forced to’seriously consider changing clubs this winter’ due to the vague statement.
He appears to be thinking about regular game time. If he does leave, Benrahma will look for a club “that will offer him more possibilities,” according to the report.
The article does not state West Ham’s position on a possible exit. However, Moyes appears to believe Benrahma is no longer as important to the cause as he once was.
According to the report, Moyes “no longer relies too heavily on Benrahma’s services, and plays him very little, or even leaves him on the bench very often.”
Benrahma was a £30 million (including add-ons) January 2021 signing from Brentford. Transfermarkt’s price tag of £21.84m provides some insight into his current worth.
Benrahma’s Hammers record currently stands at 24 goals and 19 assists in 145 games.
