David Moyes says he is prepared to start both Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

With neither player available for this weekend’s trip to Brentford after being booked for the fifth time this season against Everton on Sunday, both are expected to start against Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, the Hammers could still be without key players due to injuries sustained in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the Toffees.

“It’s a factor because I can’t use them at the weekend,” Moyes said when asked if Alvarez and Paqeuta could play tomorrow night. “It’s unfortunate that they were booked and suspended, but that’s how the league has been this year.”

“We’ve got a couple of injuries from the weekend that we’re dealing with behind the scenes.” I wouldn’t say too much right now, but we’ve had a couple of knocks, and one or two may be out tomorrow.”

“It can take a few months for anybody to adapt, whether they’re doing well or not,” Moyes told the BBC. “I think Mo has settled in well.” He made his debut against Everton and performed admirably.

“He’s young, and we’re not putting too much pressure on him or asking for too much too soon.” He has the potential to be a midfielder, but he could also play off the right or up front for us. “I believe that all of those positions are important for us because they provide us with variety.”

“I’m hoping to see Declan again,” he said. “This is the man who lifted West Ham’s first European trophy in 50 years.” He should be greeted with open arms when he returns.

“He was a fantastic teammate who carried himself impeccably as West Ham captain.” I’m looking forward to meeting him. I’m not sure I want to see him play! But I’m hoping he’ll be there.”
