MLB managers and coaches vote for players at each position in their respective leagues to determine winners; each team receives four votes, one for manager and three coaches of their choice.

The Silver Slugger voting system is based on a combination of offensive statistics such as batting average, on-base plus slugging percentage, runs scored, home runs, RBI, total bases, RBI, OPS+, and managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall value at the plate.

DeMeco Ryans returned to the podium on Monday, fresh off the most electrifying win of his first season as Houston Texans head coach, emphasizing the same principles he always does.

Maintain a winning mindset, don’t blow plays, and strive to improve week after week.

It’s good to know that Sunday’s 39-37 victory didn’t change him.

The Houston Texans defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a thrilling game in which quarterback C.J. Stroud set a rookie record for passing yards in a game. His 470-yard, five-touchdown outing was one of the best passing performances of the season and set off a tidal wave of speculation.

Ryans hasn’t let it get to him, and he appears adamant about getting everyone in the locker room on the same page.

Week 9 was exciting, but it is now over. Week 10 is approaching, which means an away game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Don’t be fooled by their 5-3 record; this team could very well win the Lombardi Trophy in a few months. Quarterback Joe Burrow struggled through the first half of the season with a lingering calf injury, which explains the low output and three losses.

Ryans stated this on Monday.

“I think Cincinnati is playing really good ball right now,” Ryans said in a statement. “They’re playing well defensively, attacking the ball and taking it away. Joe Burrow has done an excellent job offensively. He’s in good shape, surrounded by weapons, and making good decisions with the ball.”

Cincinnati defeated the playoff-bound Buffalo Bills 24-18. Burrow looked great, but for defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, it was just another day at the office. He’s made a habit of turning elite quarterbacks into mediocre performances, and while Bills quarterback Josh Allen played well, a crucial interception contributed to only 18 points being scored.

As good as Stroud was in Week 9 – and potentially could be in the future – being shut down by the Bengals defense is not an indictment.

Cincinnati, on the other hand, is on a roll. They’ve defeated the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers, and as Burrow’s ability to prance around returned, the rest of the offense followed suit.

“So an explosive offense, really attacking defense, guys are gonna get after, they fly around, they play ball the right way,” Ryans went on to say. “Great coaches on both sides of the ball, so it’s gonna be a tough matchup for us.”

Ja’Marr Chase, a Bengals receiver, is questionable for Sunday after landing on his back after a downfield pass. Despite this, Cincinnati’s emergence of receiver Tee Higgins after a quiet first half makes them dangerous. Houston will have their work cut out for them if they continue to play complementary football.

Ryans is ultimately correct. Sunday’s game will be tough, and his Texans will not be favored. To make up for their Week 8 loss to the Carolina Panthers, they’ll have to upset someone. Keeping the hot streak going after Stroud’s wedding seems like a good place to start.
