Baggies fans may be overjoyed with this news.

Former BBC presenter Adrian Goldberg has provided an update on the potential takeover of West Brom.

News of West Brom’s takeover
The Baggies are currently fifth in the Championship table after 15 games, and they won 3-1 at home to Hull City on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Jed Wallace, Matt Phillips, and Semi Ajayi.

The more the current season progresses, the more Carlos Corberan’s side appears to be strong promotion contenders, but away from the on-field action, talk of a potential takeover is ongoing, potentially ending Lai Guochuan’s reign as owner.

Many West Brom fans want it to happen in order to usher in a new era at the club, one that could see more funds available for new signings and generally make the Baggies more of a force, hopefully with them back in the Premier League next year.

Now, a significant new update on the Hawthorns takeover situation has emerged, which could be music to the fans’ ears.

What has Goldberg said about the acquisition?
Goldberg claimed on The Liquidator Podcast [via West Brom News] that West Brom could have new owners in place by January.

He claims to have seen David Hinchcliffe, a “sports lawyer who ensures the contracts drawn up between one side and another when a football club is sold are legally watertight,” sitting in the director’s box at the Hawthorns on several occasions, alongside Xu Ke and Mark Miles.

Goldberg went on to say that “I’m told by people who know that the fact he’s involved in a really positive sign that a sale for West Bromwich Albion could be proceeding, and might even be proceeding faster than we previously anticipated” .

Hinchcliffe is also referred to as a “legend in football takeovers,” which can only be good for West Brom, and the takeover “might even be completed in January.”

This is fantastic news for West Brom fans, with Goldberg’s comments implying that everything could change at the Hawthorns in the next few months. Perhaps most importantly, it may enable Corberan to enter the transfer market during the January transfer window, bringing in a few new faces to help strengthen the squad and increase the Baggies’ chances of promotion to the Premier League.

There is no clear information on who the actual new owners are, but the presence of someone as well-known as Hinchliffe at the Hawthorns can only be a good thing, implying that a deal is nearing completion.

Things are going well on the field right now, and if the takeover is completed sooner rather than later, Corberan’s team could be primed to kick it up a notch in the second half of the season, finishing in the playoff positions at the very least.
