Coventry City players and staff show their support for defender Kyle McFadzean.

Luke McNally and Michael Rose are among the Coventry City players past and present who have sent heartfelt messages to Kyle McFadzean following his mother’s death.

Coventry City’s center-back McFadzean, 36, posted a photo on Instagram today of herself proudly holding up his shirt, which had his name on the back, and saying that yesterday was the “worst day of his life.”

“It still doesn’t feel real to say this, but yesterday was the worst day of my life,” the message begins. The thought of never hearing your voice or speaking to you again breaks my heart.

“I can’t bear the thought of our lives without you, but you’re no longer in pain.” To say you were the best mother and grandmother in the world would be an understatement. There are no words to express how wonderful you are. My mother, my world, I hope I can make you as proud of me as you have always been of me. Rest well.”

McFadzean has always credited his mother for playing a critical role in his career, which had threatened to end before it began when he “fell out of football” while playing for Sheffield United. He began his career at Alfreton Town before progressing through Crawley, MK Dons, and Burton before joining Coventry in 2019.

He partnered Rose in defense to help the club win promotion from League One and has remained an important figure under Mark Robins, who will face Stoke City in the Championship on Saturday at the CBS Arena.

Current and former teammates, including McNally and Rose, as well as Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire, his former youth teammate, have all expressed their support.”I can’t bear the thought of our lives without you, but you’re no longer in pain.” To say you were the best mother and grandmother in the world
