The Reds could have another busy year.

Nottingham Forest have verbally agreed to sign their first player for 2024, but he may be unavailable to Steve Cooper in the second half of the season.

The Reds are off to a good start in their second season in the Premier League, with 13 points after 11 games. The club’s transfer window was not as busy as it had been in their first season back in the top flight, but a number of new players did arrive at The City Ground.

Murillo, one of the newcomers, has recently made headlines, with journalist Tom Collomosse saying he’ll be “amazed” if the defender doesn’t play in the Champions League in the coming years.

More additions in the back, however, appear to be on the agenda, with a development now emerging.

Nottingham Forest have agreed to sign their first player in 2024.
Fluminense captain Nino has been heavily linked with a move to the club, though the player was recently coy on his future following rumours of a move to England.

“I also learned about the interest the day before the final.” My agent was already aware that my primary focus was on recovery and being able to play this game at 100%.

“Thank God, I did it. I met with them this morning, and they told me about all the possible scenarios. Nothing is certain yet, but what is certain is that I have a great affection for Fluminense, that I’m very happy here, and that if I ever leave, I want to leave in a way that is good for both me and Fluminense.”

According to journalist Konstantinos Lianos, Forest have “verbally agreed” to sign the “talented” Nino in a deal worth just over £6 million, though given the club’s current centre-back options, an immediate loan away from The City Ground cannot be ruled out, possibly to sister club Olympiacos.

“Nottingham Forest have agreed in principle to sign Fluminense captain Nino for around £6.1 million.” Although he appears to be a very talented centre-back, Forest already has seven CBs. Olympiacos is in desperate need of a top central defender. “I can’t rule out another loan completely.”

Nino is 26 years old and has grown steadily in recent years, with a career-high market valuation of €7 million. (Transfermarkt – Nino profile)

As a result, Forest may believe they can replicate their promising move for Murrilo, despite the fact that, as previously stated, Forest has Murrilo, Felipe, Willy Boly, Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall, Moussa Niakhate, and Andrew Omobamidele as centre-back options. Because of Cooper’s current options, it will be interesting to see what they do with Nino initially, but he appears to be on Forest’s books in 2024.
