Warrington Wolves have become the first Super League team to reveal their squad numbers ahead of the 2024 season, with Toby King given the number three jersey upon his return.
This year, King wore the same number on the back of his Wigan Warriors jersey and was crowned Super League champion as a loanee for the Cherry and Whites after appearing 31 times.
The center is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained while on England duty this autumn, and was spotted in a medical boot at Headingley last weekend as Shaun Wane’s side completed a 3-0 series win over Tonga.
Wolves captain Stefan Ratchford retains the number four jersey, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be the other center in Sam Burgess’ team given he’s grown accustomed to being shifted around as needed.
Rodrick Tai of Papua New Guinea will compete for a spot in the centres after joining the Wire ahead of 2024, and has been assigned squad number 14.
Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Zane Musgrove, two other newcomers, are assigned numbers 12 and 16, respectively. Joe Philbin will have his testimonial year in 2024 and will keep his number 15, with promising youngster Leon Hayes taking 18 after finishing 25th last season.
The high end of the numbers released today features a plethora of academy talent, including Jake Thewlis, who takes 31. Josh, the Super League’s 2023 Young Player of the Year, is his younger brother.
