After his outstanding performance against Tottenham Hotspur, Dave Edwards believes midfielder Mario Lemina has been the best player for Wolves in 2023.

Wanderers enter the latest international break on a high after coming from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Molineux.

On Saturday, Pablo Sarabia scored a spectacular equalizer before laying on an assist for Mario Lemina to score the game-winning goal.

The Gabonese international deserved to score. He’d been all over the place in the game, which is something he does all the time.

At Molineux, Lemina is a hugely popular figure. Fans have praised his energy and tenacity since his arrival in January, and Edwards has now paid tribute to the dynamo in his latest Express & Star column…

Mario Lemina, according to Dave Edwards, has been the Wolves’ best player in 2023.

In his most recent column, Edwards wrote about Lemina.

He delivered another outstanding performance, capping it off with a 97th-minute winner. He displayed incredible drive to get on the end of Sarabia’s pass. Andy Thompson, a club legend, was impressed by this.

Every time he steps onto the field, he displays drive and desire, and Edwards believes these characteristics truly set him apart. He believes he has been the club’s best performer this year.

“There is no doubt in my mind that he has been Wolves’ best player in 2023,” he said.

“It’s similar to Gary O’Neil in that he embodies what Wolves fans want, and I believe he is the ideal player for them.”

Everything about his game, especially with Wolves playing a two-man midfield, requires him to be extremely dynamic. He is the constant in there; he has a tremendous work rate, desire, and he knows his way around the pitch.

“Lemina is an accomplished passer, he can link play really well, but what I love about him the most is when he is on the front foot, as he was in those last 10 minutes.”

When the Wolves needed someone, he was on the ball and driving the tempo. He wasn’t happy with the draw; once they equalized, he wanted to win, and I’m glad he got a couple of goals. He’s looked great in a Wolves jersey.”

Lemina has been fantastic for Wolves.
Edwards may be correct in predicting that Lemina will be Wolves’ best player in 2023. Craig Dawson, on the other hand, has been outstanding at the back.

Before £45,000-a-week star Lemina arrived at Wolves, the midfield lacked bite, aggression, and mobility.

Wolves fans had enjoyed watching the likes of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, who were known for their technical brilliance.

With Lemina and Joao Gomes, two fantastic ball-winners, the midfield now has a very different vibe. They are not as ‘watchable’ as Neves and Moutinho, despite being true workhorses.

Lemina has had a significant impact on the team. He is without a doubt one of the best signings the club has made in recent years.
