Because they were confident in Sam Howell, the Washington Commanders felt at ease parting ways with Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz in the offseason.

Howell reportedly made significant progress during the offseason, and there was hope that having Eric Bieniemy on the team would help his development.

Moving forward, we’ve seen both good and bad from the UNC product.

Some are still undecided about him, while others have seen more than enough to conclude that he is not the man they require right now.

Whatever the case may be, one thing is certain: He’s already made NFL history in just a few starts.

According to the Commanders’ public relations department and Dov Kleiman, Howell is the only quarterback in league history to have at least 2,900 passing yards, over 200 rushing yards, and a 65% completion percentage in his first 11 career games.

Howell clearly has the arm strength to sling the ball down the field, and he’s more mobile than the naked eye would suggest.

He’s not particularly big or athletic, and he should have better numbers with that kind of receiving corps, but he still appears to be in his prime.

The Commanders will be very aggressive in the offseason in order to improve their roster.

Still, it may be prudent to give Howell another year under Bieniemy’s tutelage before drawing any conclusions about his future as the team’s starting quarterback.
