Coventry City should be scouting four players ahead of the January transfer window.

Coventry City have had a slow start to the new Championship season.

Last season, the Sky Blues reached the play-off final but were denied promotion to the Premier League.

Following their penalty shootout loss to Luton Town, Mark Robins’ side underwent significant changes, losing key players such as Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer.

The team is currently 20th in the Championship table, 10 points out of the play-off places.

Coventry City will be looking to strengthen their first-team squad during the January transfer window.

Here are four players to keep an eye on as teams prepare for the market to reopen in the new year…

1Max Bird

Coventry’s midfield needs to improve, as they continue to rely on Liam Kelly for consistent minutes, despite the fact that the 33-year-old is past his prime.

With the Derby County midfielder impressing in League One, the arrival of someone like Bird could be a really positive addition to Robins’ squad.

All things considered, this could be a reasonable January goal that has the potential to improve the team’s option quality.

Adding Bird to the squad would be a wise use of the winter transfer window, and would help the club avoid relegation.

2Alan Browne

Alan Browne of Preston North End is another midfielder who the club could be interested in.

The Irishman has done well for the Lilywhites over the years, with his recent performances particularly impressive.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Sky Blues could try to entice him to move to the CBS Arena.

If he cannot reach an agreement with the Lancashire club, they may look to offload him in January, and he would be a good fit for Robins’ squad.

3Callum Styles

A number of clubs, including Championship rivals West Brom, have been linked with a move for the Barnsley player.

Coventry should be interested in the 23-year-old as well, as he would be a valuable addition to the team over the winter.

Styles has plenty of Championship experience and has proven to be a capable performer at this level when fit.

His arrival would bolster Robins’ first-team options and give the team a competitive advantage in both attack and defense.

4Cameron Humphreys

During the summer transfer window, Coventry were linked with a move for the Rotherham defender, but the deal fell through.

Humphreys is currently out of action due to a significant injury, which may preclude a January move.

However, if the defender can regain full fitness in time for the end of the winter window, the Sky Blues should consider making a formal offer for him.

Coventry could use the defensive reinforcement, and the 25-year-old has demonstrated that he is more than capable of performing well at the Championship level during his time with the Millers.
