‘A real good footballing team,’ Millwall head coach Joe Edwards says of Coventry’s threat at The Den.
Last season’s beaten play-off finalists will be looking to regain form after a lengthy slump.
JOE EDWARDS praised Coventry City as one of the Championship’s “good footballing teams” ahead of today’s game at The Den.
The Sky Blues have gone six games without a win and will be hoping that the international break will allow them to re-establish their form.
Millwall had been in a slump before Edwards’ arrival, when they won 0-4 at Sheffield Wednesday two weeks ago.
The Lions’ head coach will now be on the touchline for his first home game, and he believes Coventry City will present a difficult challenge, despite their recent poor form. He also revealed that he is friendly with former Chelsea coach Adi Viveash, who is now Coventry’s assistant manager.
“Coventry are a really good footballing team,” Edwards told NewsAtDen. They were the play-off finalists last year, and you have to respect that. Interestingly, they played a back four in their last game [a 0-0 draw with Stoke City], despite usually playing a back five.
“They’ve been very good with that system and cause you a lot of problems overloading the middle of the pitch.” Myself and Andy [Myers] are very familiar with Adi Viveash, their assistant coach. We worked with him for many years at Chelsea. Adi’s beliefs and vision for how football should be played mesh well with Mark [Robins’] and they share a similar vision. When you watch Coventry play, you can tell it’s one of the Championship’s top teams.
“They’ve obviously had a slower start to the season in terms of results and putting points on the board than they would have liked.” I don’t believe their results necessarily reflect their performances, but they will undoubtedly be a difficult opponent for us at The Den.”
