As he prepares to make changes for tomorrow’s match against Manchester City, Unai Emery has assured the Villa players that they will all have the opportunity to shine.
Signing of records Nicolo Zaniolo received his first start in almost a month during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, replacing Moussa Diaby in the starting lineup.
As Ollie Watkins scored a late equaliser, Diaby came off the bench. When asked about Diaby’s exclusion, Emery remarked, “It is not rest.” The reason for this is that we need to give Zaniolo, one of our players, every chance to play so he can get experience and playing time.
Naturally, we had games on Thursday, Sunday, and two the following week. Setting up the same starting lineup for those games is challenging.
“We will probably make a change for Wednesday, though not entirely.”
“We are trying to build a team, not just 11 players,” he continued. I’ll give everyone an opportunity. They must experience a sense of significance.
