Kevin Muscat, a possible candidate for manager of the Rangers, has resigned from his position as head coach of the Japanese team Yokohama F Marinos.

The former Ibrox star, who played for Glasgow during the treble-winning 2002–03 season, departs voluntarily in pursuit of a “new challenge.”

Following Michael Beale’s firing, Kevin Muscat was heavily linked to the Rangers position; nevertheless, Philippe Clement ultimately secured the position.

In a similar vein, Joe Edwards beat over Kevin Muscat for the manager’s position at Championship team Millwall, another of his previous clubs.

Bowing out at Yokohama F Marinos is Kevin Muscat.
Kevin Muscat steps down from his position as manager of Yokohama F Marinos, having led the Japanese team for 2.5 years.

Kevin Muscat, who took Ange Postecoglou’s place at the head of the J-League, won the championship the previous season but fell short against Vissel Kobe this time around.

In addition to winning the Japanese Super Cup earlier this year, the manager led the team to a second-place finish in his first season in command.

Yokohama CEO Akihiro Nakayama praised Kevin Muscat for “his many accomplishments” in a statement released after his resignation.

Nakayama stated, “Manager Kevin Muscat has decided to pursue a new challenge after stepping down as the manager of Yokohama F. Marinos.”

We want to thank Coach Muscat for all of his hard work and accomplishments.

“The club had to make a difficult decision, but after much deliberation, they honoured Coach Muscat’s requests and came to a mutually acceptable conclusion.

“We would like to support Coach Muscat in his new challenge as the Marinos family.”

Hunt, the manager of the Rangers, went elsewhere.
Kevin Muscat was a top pick for the Rangers managerial position because of his attacking style of football play in Japan.

Ange Postecoglou led Celtic to victory, and it’s clear that some of them looked to the Far East, as the now-former Tottenham manager is having success in the J-League.

However, following a fruitful period in Japan, Kevin Muscat now seems willing to take his chances, and ultimately the Rangers managerial hunt went elsewhere.

Kevin Muscat has led Melbourne Victory in the Australian A-League after a brief and fruitless tenure as manager of Belgian team Sint Truiden.
