2024 might get off to a busy start.

In the January transfer window, NSWE, the owners of Aston Villa, are prepared to support manager Unai Emery by adding two more attackers.

The team has been playing fantastically in 2023, especially at Villa Park, as seen by their 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday, which set a new club record for the most wins at home in the Premier League (15).

Since taking over for Steven Gerrard at the end of 2022 and leading Villa into Europe, Emery has managed each of those. This time around, Villa looks to be fighting for a top-four spot or perhaps a run at the championship, and NSWE supported him during the summer transfer window.

According to a recent update, Villa appears prepared to open the wallet again in the New Year to make sure they don’t rest on their laurels.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider claims that NSWE is prepared to back Emery up by adding two more attackers to the squad. Oscar Gloukh, a young centre forward for RB Salzburg, was mentioned as a potential target, but Villa also wants a new centre forward to challenge Ollie Watkins.

Attackers Emery’s team at Aston Villa has scored 35 goals in 20 league games this season, more than teams in the top half including Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle, Brighton, West Ham, and Fulham. The team hasn’t exactly struggled for goals in the top flight this season.

Watkins leads all scorers in all competitions this season with thirteen, followed by Leon Bailey with eight, Douglas Luiz with six, and John McGinn with six each. Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby each have four goals, while eight other players have at least one goal recorded. (BBC: Top scores for Aston Villa)

Villa now lacks Emiliano Bunedia and Bertrand Traore due to injuries, but they do have Bailey and Diaby as regular wide options and Nicolo Zainolo on loan as an offensive midfielder in addition to forwards Watkins and Duran. (Transfermarkt: The squad of Aston Villa)

It makes sense, then, that Villa and Emery would want to bolster their squad in the closing third. Adding two new players could enable them to push for the championship in the second half of the season or qualify for the Champions League, so this is one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
