Attendance at Somerset Collection during Blake Corum’s toy drive earlier this month was much higher than anticipated. For the most part of the day, the captain of the Michigan football team traded gifts for selfies, promising to donate the items to charities in the area.
On Friday, Corum visited Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbour with a truckload of gifts and personally made some of the donations.
The hospital posted on social media, describing Blake Corum’s visit to Little Victors as “very merry.” Blake paid a surprise visit to a few of our patients and brought along an enormous truck filled with toys. Blake, I appreciate you taking the effort to cheer people up this holiday season. Salute and move forward, blue.
Corum, who will return to Michigan for his senior year in 2023, has made multiple contributions to the community and has made no secret of his aim to have a positive impact both on and off the football pitch.
“When I reflect on the past four years, I hope that I have left a legacy. Here, I left my mark. After assisting U-M in defeating Ohio State in November, Corum stated, “I made a difference both on and off the pitch.”
Reverend Jesse Jackson presented Corum with the Collegiate Social Service Award in January of last year. Part of Corum’s acceptance speech was as follows:
God has endowed me with the capacity to contribute in addition to my physical gifts. The capacity to bring joy to others. the capacity to elicit laughter. That is the main focus.
Little things in life, like laughs, smiles, and get-togethers, are what matter most. That is my belief.
One day, I appeared on “Good Morning America.” “Football is my passion,” I said throughout our conversation. Providing for others is my goal. I think my purpose for being here is to serve others. For as long as I live on this planet, I will serve and unite communities.
A finalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year title, Corum is one of three.
Apart from his toy drive, Corum organises an annual Giving Back 2 Give Thanks event in Ypsilanti, Michigan, which takes place prior to Thanksgiving. He fed more than 600 households with Thanksgiving turkey dinners this year. In addition, Corum has collaborated with the Detroit Police Athletic League and Detroit Rescue Mission Ministry on many charity endeavours and given school supplies and backpacks to children in the community.
On the field, Corum led the country in rushing touchdowns this year and was a 2022 Heisman Trophy contender. On January 1, he and Michigan play Alabama in the Rose Bowl.
