The San Francisco Giants have announced that Gabe Kapler has been dismissed of his manager duties.
After managing the Giants for almost four seasons, Kapler is out. After leading San Francisco to an unexpected 107 wins and an NL West championship in 2021, the Giants have found it difficult to repeat that season’s extraordinary success.
Earlier this week, the Giants, who are 78-81 in 2023, were taken out of the postseason picture. FanGraphs gave them a 52.9% chance to make the playoffs at the start of September.
It comes out that he was killed in September due to a collapse.
San Francisco finished 8–17 in September and rapidly lost ground thereafter.
Kapler, who managed the Phillies for two seasons starting in 2018
Just over ten days after the 2019 season came to a conclusion, John Middleton, the Phillies’ managing partner, fired Kapler, the team’s manager for two seasons, 2018 and 2019. The September breakdowns had a role in Kapler’s termination. Under Kapler, the Phillies finished 20–36 in the two Septembers.
This season, the Giants were a difficult team to watch. They played with too many elderly, unathletic veterans and effectively ran a two-man rotation. The roster’s talent level is reflected in the low win total.
Although players voiced concerns both openly and privately over Kapler’s management style and player use, it’s reasonable to question whether Farhan Zaidi and the Giants front office should bear a greater share of the blame.
