Dec. 6: Phils add five players in Minor League phase of Rule 5 Draft
The Phillies did not select or lose anybody in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft, but they did make a series of moves in the Minor League portion.

The Phils selected catchers William Simoneit (A’s), Luis Caicuto (D-backs) and Carson Taylor (Dodgers); and infielders Trevor Schwecke (Blue Jays) and Bryson Ball (Guardians).

They also lost left-handers Rafael Marcano (Twins) and Keylan Killgore (Royals), as well as right-handers Carlos Betancourt (Astros) and Blake Brown (Rays).

INJURY UPDATES
RHP Andrew Painter (sprained UCL in right elbow)
Expected return: 2025
Painter had Tommy John surgery with ulnar nerve transposition surgery on July 25 in Los Angeles. Orthopedist Neal ElAttrache performed the procedures. The typical timeline to return to play is 15 to 18 months.

Painter will miss the entire 2024 season, according to the Phillies. They first tried a conservative rehab process, following the opinions of their doctors and ElAttrache, who works closely with Painter’s agent Scott Boras.

“I know we’ll be looking at [Painter] and thinking in 2025 that he has a chance to be in our rotation at that time,” president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said. “But that’s a long time away.” (Last updated: Nov. 3)

RHP Erich Uelmen (strained right flexor)
Expected return: 2024
Uelmen made one appearance this season for the Phillies. He last pitched for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sept. 19. (Last updated:
