Trey Palmer seemed unfazed as the rounds and picks went on.

Palmer felt that way in a 2023 NFL draft that a lot of general managers and expert scouts regarded as unpredictable. The former Nebraska wide receiver was largely anticipated to be selected in the fourth or fifth round, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him as the No. 191 overall choice in the sixth round.

Although other prospects would have been let down by the tiny discrepancy in value, Palmer, who was waiting to be drafted, enjoyed the time unwinding with his son.

Palmer remarked, “I really don’t get anxious or anything like that; I’ve got good patience so it didn’t affect me.”

Palmer had the quickest 40-yard sprint time of any wide receiver at the NFL Combine, clocking in at 4.33 seconds. Players with that kind of speed typically go up the selection boards. But worries regarding Palmer’s hands and route running probably caused him to fall into the sixth round instead.

Palmer’s style has always been characterised by confidence, which he demonstrated in 2022 with a 70-catch, 1,000-yard season with Nebraska. The wide receiver’s unwavering confidence and lightning-fast speed have finally allowed him to realise his lifelong goal of being selected in the NFL draft.

Palmer will have a significant chance to establish himself at the top level after moving to Tampa Bay, where Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask will compete for the starting quarterback position throughout the offseason.

Palmer remarked, “I just want to work, go ball, and dominate whoever I’m opposite from to help the team win.” It’s not even a complete procedure because I still have to compete and go to work. That’s why I enjoy what I do so much: I enjoy competing and crushing others.

Palmer wasn’t even the first Husker to leave the board, so he had to wait a while to hear his name called on Saturday. The Los Angeles Rams selected edge rusher Ochaun Mathis with the No. 189 pick, just two selections before Palmer was selected.
