The Detroit Tigers have completed a transaction that sends infielder Nick Maton to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for monetary considerations. This move comes after the Tigers designated Maton for assignment earlier this week, which was publicly confirmed Monday afternoon.

Maton, originally acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies, was expected to be a vital utility player for the Tigers, maybe securing a regular slot in the infield lineup. He impressed in spring camp and delivered big hits in April, but he struggled to continue his performance, finishing with a.173 batting average, eight home runs, and 32 RBIs in 93 games with the Tigers.

Nick Maton’s trade to the Baltimore Orioles concludes what may have been a profitable time with the Detroit Tigers. Maton’s time with the Tigers, which began with excitement and great hopes, demonstrated the unpredictable nature of baseball, where early promise does not usually transfer into long-term success. As Maton begins a new chapter with the Orioles, the Tigers conclude this one, reflecting on the complexities and challenges of assembling a winning club.

Anaheim, California — The Los Angeles Angels and reliever José Cisnero reached an agreement on a one-year, $1.75 million contract Saturday.

Cisnero, a right-hander who turns 35 on April 11, went 3-4 with two saves and a 5.31 ERA in 63 games last year, his fifth season with Detroit, striking out 70 and walking 25 in 59 1/3 innings. He gave up a career-high 10 home runs, up from six in 2022.

Cisnero averaged 94.4 mph on his fastball, up from 93.4 mph in 2022 but down from 96.4 mph in 2019.

He has a 13-17 record with a 3.99 ERA in seven seasons with the Houston Astros (2013-14) and the Detroit Tigers (2019-23), striking out 275 and walking 130 in 259 1/3 innings.

Cisnero underwent Tommy John surgery on May 28, 2014, and then pitched for Mexico’s Sultanes de Monterrey and the independent New Jersey Jackals in 2016.

Livan Soto, an infielder, was designated for assignment to free up a roster space. Soto made his big league debut in September 2022, hitting.400 (22 for 55) with one home run and nine RBIs over 18 games. He batted.222 (2 for 9) in four games with the Angels in May and June, after hitting.237 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs in 110 games at Triple-A Salt Lake and Double-A Rocket City.
