9-year NFL veteran defensive tackle, and Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, has signed with the New York Giants.
Nunez-Roches, also known as ‘Nacho’, was a crucial depth piece for the Bucs during his five-year tenure in Tampa. Nacho was a vital member of a group that built one of the league’s most formidable run defenses during his tenure.
In 2022, Nunez-Roches had 33 combined tackles, and two sacks for the Buccaneers.
Nunez-Roches was a significant locker room figure in addition to his on-field performances. Notorious for being a trash-talker on the field and a loud personality off it, his presence at One Buccaneer Place will undoubtedly be missed.
However, it’s unsurprising that Tampa Bay was unable to keep Nacho. With a long list of free agents and minimal financial space, Tampa fans have been bracing for a mass exodus.
Nunez-Roches is likely to play a similar role in New York as he did in Tampa. He’ll be a rotational defensive lineman who is strong against the run and has a lot of energy.
As Tampa Bay supporters already know, acquiring solid depth pieces, particularly in the trenches, is critical for success in this league. Rakeem Nunez-Roches will offer the Giants with just that.
