Following his arrest on Monday for allegedly committing criminal damage, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross has beesn placed on the NFL’s exempt list. Despite his not guilty plea, he will be unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Denver Bronco.

Earlier this week, Ross’ teammate and quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and their coach spoke out about the arrest, with Andy Reid “addressing” the situation while speaking to media.

During a weekly media conference on Wednesday, the head coach addressed Ross’ detention. “We are and have been taking in all of the information. We will continue to do so. He’s back here. He’ll work today, and we’ll just go from there. Aside than that, I don’t have much information to share with you other than what we’ve acquired,” Reid told KCTV5.
According to the site, reporters quizzed Mahomes about the wide receiver. “We adore Justyn. In terms of specifics, I’m not that knowledgeable. “In this locker room, it’s a brotherhood, so we just try to help each other as much as we can,” Mahomes explained.

While Reid stated that Ross practiced at the Chiefs facility on Wednesday morning, many sites have established that the player is on the exempt list as of Friday afternoon. “It means he’ll get paid pending the resolution of the criminal case, as well as the conclusion of any subsequent probe and ban by the league,” NBC Sports stated.

Ross was arrested in Shawnee, Kansas, just before 3 p.m. on Monday, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s booking and release record, a Kansas standard offense report, and the Shawnee Police Department’s offense report, all of which were acquired by PEOPLE.

According to Johnson County Kansas District Court Public Records, Ross was charged with two misdemeanors: domestic battery with no priors and criminal damage to property valued at less than $1,000.

Following his release, Ross appeared in court via Zoom on Tuesday, pleading not guilty, according to KSHB41. According to the site, a judge imposed a $2,500 personal recognizance bond for Ross. [He] bonded out of the Johnson County Adult Detention Center following his appearance.”

Furthermore, “the judge approved Ross’ ex-girlfriend’s plea to have no contact with Ross and gave her two hours after the hearing to remove her stuff from his home,” according to KSHB41.
PEOPLE has reached out to Ross’ management and the Kansas City Chiefs for comment. While the team did not immediately react to PEOPLE’s inquiry, they did inform the Associated Press on Monday that they were aware of the arrest.
