Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer has found a new opportunity by signing a minor-league contract with the Boston Red Sox. However, his debut with the famous franchise will be delayed as he is expected to miss the entire 2024 season due to Tommy John elbow surgery.
Fulmer was originally drafted by the New York Mets in 2011. On July 31, 2015, he was dealt to the Tigers as part of the Yoenis Céspedes transaction.
He made his Tigers debut the following season and was named the American League Rookie of the Year. However, a series of surgical procedures kept him out for the whole 2019 season, after which he moved to the bullpen.
Fulmer was moved to the Minnesota Twins, a division foe, in exchange for Sawyer Gipson-Long. He spent the following year with the Chicago Cubs, where he had a 4.42 ERA and a 3-5 record in 57 innings pitched.
