Now, the 12-16 Lakers must consider alternative ways to save their season. Here are some players and storylines to follow while Davis recovers.

The Lakers will be counting on the other two members of their big three to keep their dreams alive.

LeBron has been outstanding in his 20th season, averaging 26.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game on a 48-31-74 split. He has also had eight 30-point performances this season. In a season where many expected he would decline, James has managed to defy Father Time, leading the Lakers time and again as he looks to return to the playoffs.

Westbrook, who was once the ire of Lakers fans all over the world, has improved his play to the point where he is now a legitimate third option for the Lakers, with the potential to compete for the “Sixth Man of the Year” award. Russ has embraced his new role under Darvin Ham, averaging 15.2 points, eight assists, and six rebounds this season on 41-30-68 splits. He recently established franchise history as the first Laker to record multiple triple-doubles off the bench.

While Davis is out, James and Westbrook will lead LA’s drive. Fans can only hope that their heroic efforts will be enough to keep the team afloat.

Walker IV has been exceptional for the Purple and Gold this season, averaging 15.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.7 steals per game on a 47-38-85 split. On a team dominated by guards, the 24-year-old is doing everything he can to stick out, carving out a starting spot for himself and excelling along the way.

Walker’s passion and agility have been a treat to watch for Laker fans, and he will have even more opportunity to contribute to a winning culture.

Austin Reaves, a fan favorite, will also see more playing time. In his second year, he averages over 11 points per game, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 51-37-91 splits. Reaves has established himself to be a tough two-way player who can excel as a starter or off the bench. He has a knack for scoring, having recorded 20 or more points in three games and double digits in 14 others.

Reaves has also shown an increased maturity in his second season, taking blame for some of the Lakers’ recent losses where he missed key free throws.

His experience as a returner will be key on a team full of new additions — even if they have played nearly 30 games so far.

A true 3-and-D guard, he, like Walker, has stood out as a guard who can step up outside of the big three. His talents will be utilized greatly as the Lakers face star guards in Bradley Beal, De’Aaron Fox and Devin Booker in the coming games.
