Cleveland, Ohio — The Browns wanted to sign kicker Cade York to their practice squad, but he preferred a change of scenery.

It might do him the world of good.

He will join the Titans’ practice squad, according to Jordan Schultz of the Schultz Report.

“I’m disappointed with how everything worked out,” Stefanski remarked. “I’m not shocked he went somewhere else, but that’s the way of this business.”

The Browns replaced York with Dustin Hopkins, a 10-year veteran obtained in a trade with the Chargers for a 2025 seventh-round pick. They waived York on Tuesday, before his second season began.

York, 22, struggled in preseason, converting 4 of 8 field goal attempts and 8 of 8 extra goals. However, he had one failed field goal and one missed extra point negated by penalties.

York, the fourth-round choice from LSU last season, made only 75% of his kicks as a rookie, going 24 for 32, with the majority of his misses coming at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

The final straw for the Browns came during Saturday’s preseason finale in Kansas City, when he sailed an extra-point try wide left before a defender collided with him, nullifying the miss and injuring his right shin.

In that 33-32 loss, he added three more extra points and a 40-yard field goal to seal the deal. However, he squandered a chance to win the game when his 43-yard effort was kicked low and blocked with 54 seconds left.

Following the game, York stated that all of the well-wishes and pats on the back just served to annoy him.

“Pity p—es me off,” he stated. “I want to become a weapon. I understand how good I am. The most frustrating aspect of the last month has been dealing with that. So, the real games begin soon. “Just want to get a head start on the season and start putting them through their paces.”

York had missed a potential game-winning shot for the second time in a row. In an 18-18 tie with the Eagles in the third preseason game, he pushed a 47-yarder wide right just after the two-minute warning, but was allowed another chance when the Eagles were called for illegal formation. With just under two minutes left, he fired the 41-yarder wide left, overcorrecting for his previous misses.

York had also kicked 49 and 46 yards wide right in the first two preseason games against the Jets and Commanders.
