No one feels the need to discuss it right now, but the Detroit Lions may have long-term quarterback problems to answer in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With uncertainty surrounding current starter Jared Goff, should they shift their attention to the position next proved one thing in 2022: he passed for 4,428 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in a Pro Bowl season.

He shown that, in a well-designed scheme with quality weapons and protection, he can be an excellent NFL starting quarterback.

On the surface, Goff’s 2023 season has not shown a significant decline. He’s still throwing more than two touchdowns for every pick and averaging 7.6 yards per attempt. And he’s on track to establish a career high for completion percentage.

Most notably, Goff’s Lions were 9-3 heading into Week 14. They’re on track to make the playoffs and possibly win the NFC North.

Goff fumbled three times against the Packers on Thanksgiving, contributing to the team’s 22-29 loss. He threw three interceptions in the previous week’s close win over the Chicago Bears, keeping Chicago in the game.

And this week, in a loss to Chicago, Goff delivered a horrible fourth-down interception to Jaylon Johnson, nearly threw a second pick right to Jaquan Brisker at the second level, and mishandled a snap that went directly to a Chicago touchdown in the fourth quarter, putting the Bears up two.
