Forward Francis joined the Blues as a teenager in 1970 and spent over a decade at St Andrew’s, where he helped them win promotion and scored 133 goals in 329 matches.
By the late 1970s, he was an England international and had become the first footballer in England to fetch a £1 million transfer fee, signing for Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest. He won two European Cups while at the City Ground.
After stints in Italy and Scotland, Francis returned to England and, after hanging up his boots, went into coaching. In 1996, he returned to St Andrews.

Francis’ family revealed that he died after a heart attack on Monday morning at his apartment in Marbella, Spain. The announcement sparked an outpouring of tributes to the Blues legend.
Francis played 330 games for Blues before being moved to Nottingham Forest for £1 million in 1979, a record at the time.
After retiring from playing, Francis took over as manager of his previous club, leading Blues in 290 games. He has also managed Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace.
Birmingham City supporters have flocked to pay tribute to the late, great Trevor Francis, who died at the age of 69.
He went on to represent England 52 times, scoring twice in the 1982 World Cup, and also played in the United States, Italy, and Australia during his illustrious career.

Trevor Francis, as you might expect, was in high demand when he joined Birmingham City as a teenager. Moving away from his Devon roots, his schoolboy status did not last long; at the age of 16, he was in the Blues first team, making his debut against Cardiff City in September 1970.
Francis, a skilled and agile player, remained with the Blues’ first team for nearly a decade, playing under Goodwin, Willie Bell, and Sir Alf Ramsey. He assisted in propelling Blues to the First Division on the penultimate day of the season in 1972, following a season in which the club’s famed front three of Francis, Bob Hatton, and Bob Latchford scored 64 goals combined.
