Aside from Todd Monken as the next coordinator, if the Ravens brought in Lamar Jackson to discuss coordinators, it might be interpreted as a hint that Monken will be working with Lamar in 2023 and beyond.

The Baltimore Ravens had promised that, despite the contract dispute, their NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson will have a say in the choice of the next offensive coordinator.

“I did approach Lamar [Jackson] about it, and he will be involved,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said recently of the team’s hunt for a new coordinator. “I’ll keep him informed about what’s going on, and I’m sure he’ll have some input along the road…”

Todd Monken has been hired away from the University of Georgia’s back-to-back championship program.

Yes, Jackson did have a voice, at least when it came to representing his locker room.

This is newsworthy on the surface, as is the transition to a Monken offense, which will bear little resemblance to the now-defunct Greg Roman’s run-centric strategy.

But there’s more to Monken’s role as coordinator: if the organization is bringing in Lamar to discuss coordinators, it should be interpreted as a sign that Monken will be working with Lamar in 2023 and beyond.

And after a weekend in which the Ravens revealed to the media their readiness to contemplate selling Jackson for a “windfall” of draft picks?

“Working with Jackson” could be a positive move for the Ravens’ perception of Lamar.
