Unlike West Virginia University Head Football Coach Neal Brown, the school’s Athletic Director Wren Baker has no reservations about mayonnaise.

“I’m not like Coach Brown — you see, Coach Brown, he really, really dislikes mayonnaise,” Baker stated at a press conference in December.

Baker does, however, have a preferred food item that he finds revolting.

“My food like that is pickles,” he explained. “If this were a pickle juice challenge, there’d be no way. I’d be sent to a place without extradition.”

Fortunately, Baker’s future does not include pickle juice. But there will be a large amount of mayonnaise on the way.

Baker and the West Virginia-focused NIL collective Country Roads Trust reached an agreement in December, just before WVU football’s Duke Mayo Bowl appearance. If the Trust reaches 1,500 members, Baker will participate in the same mayonnaise dump that the winning coach of Duke’s Mayo Bowl receives. Brown earned his bath after a 30-10 bowl victory over UNC.

The Country Roads Trust is now teaming with Duke’s Mayo and the Charlotte Sport Foundation, which operates the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, to fund Wren Baker’s mayo bath. All revenues from the event will benefit the WVU Children’s Hospital, and WVU Medicine Children’s Chief Administrative Officer Amy Bush has agreed to participate in the dump as well. For every $500 raised a jar of Duke’s mayonnaise will be added to the coolers to be dumped on Baker and Bush.

At this moment, the campaign has raised $3,303 for its cause. Donations will be welcomed in the run-up to the event; more information on giving may be found at this link. The mayo dump is set to take place next Wednesday, March 20th, at 5:30 p.m. For those who want to watch, the event will be broadcast on Nexstar’s local news network.

It will be broadcast on WTRF of Wheeling, WOWK of Charleston, WBOY of Clarksburg, WVNS of Beckley, and WDVM of Hagerstown.
