The Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott is about to enter the last year of his deal. Tua Tagovailoa’s contract is up for negotiation with the Miami Dolphins.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline assembled five Prescott successors the Cowboys should consider in 2025 using this scenario. Kline offers Tagovailoa as one of the five options.

Tagovailoa’s next contract is questionable as it appears to be far more generous than his on-field ability. Nevertheless, he is a lock to start and is likely among the top 15 or 20 quarterbacks in the NFL, which is good enough to convince the Cowboys to give him an investment.

In the pocket, Tagovailoa performs with amazing precision. The Alabama product thinks the game at a high level and executes intermediate throws as well as anyone, while not having exceptional arm power.

At best, Tagovailoa’s shift is a lateral one and likely a big step back, but at least he has shown that he is capable of leading a talented enough offense to the postseason. For as long as CeeDee Lamb remains, Dallas will have no shortage of playmaking weapons. Dallas could do much worse when it comes to Prescott alternatives, even though Tagovailoa wouldn’t be the best 2025 starting.

Even though Tagovailoa has stayed healthy throughout the season, doubts about him are still at an all-time high. The Miami Dolphins had a difficult time against postseason teams; they were just 1-5 against 2023 playoff opponents.

They not only had a -91 point difference in seven games, but they also went 1-5 against teams that made the playoffs.

In contrast to 37.1 points per game against non-playoff teams, they only managed 17.7 points per game versus playoff clubs.

Prescott might be the answer in Mike McDaniel’s offense to try to address it, according to Kline. The Dolphins would be the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s “dream destination,” according to Kline.

The Miami Dolphins are the ideal destination, at least in terms of entertainment value, if the Cowboys allow Dak Prescott to join free agency. Picture Prescott playing in Mike McDaniel’s scheme, equipped with Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Tua Tagovailoa is in the same situation as Prescott because Miami has not signed him to an extension.
