Joel Sherman of The Post revealed on Thursday night that former Yankee
Keynan Middleton had reached an agreement to sign with the Cardinals.
The contract’s terms have not been made public.
Middleton was acquired by the Yankees from the White Sox at the August 1
trade deadline the previous season. In 14 1/3 innings pitched in The Bronx, he
recorded a 1.88 ERA and 17 strikeouts while providing reliable relief.
Middleton, 30, was a Statcast darling the previous season, with average exit
velocity against opponents in the 97th percentile and whiff rate in the 96th.
Middleton stated to The Post in October that he would be amenable to a return
with the Yankees.
Middleton remarked, “To be honest, I’m not looking at too many other places.”
“I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to be here after being here. I would
love to return here if it works out. But we’ll have to wait and see.
Five observations from New York Yankees spring training | FOX Sports
“There are other individuals here that are just pure greatness:lay HolmeĀ Cs,
Michael King, and Gerrit Cole. It has greatly benefited me to be around these
individuals and be able to absorb knowledge from them.
According to last week’s story by Jon Heyman of The Post, the Yankees have
been making lowball offers to relievers and may consider looking to Middleton
to fill a void.
