Should we hope to actually challenge for a spot in the top six next season,
David Sullivan must support West Ham manager David Moyes during the
summer transfer window.
But as the Hammers look to amass cash for a transfer attack, a number of
players will also be departing this summer.
An further defender may be leaving the London Stadium this summer in
addition to Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has previously been linked to leaving.
The 24-year-old Ben Johnson’s contract with West Ham expires in the
summer, but during the last six weeks or so, he has been playing pretty well.
Although many people praised his performance against Manchester United
last month, would his current success be sufficient to land him a new contract
That’s no surprise really – he has been awful for West Ham over the past 18
months or so. In spite of his fine recent form, Moyes is clearly still not
convinced about the 24-year-old.
His best recent performances have actually come in an auxiliary midfield role,
and it’s clear that he won’t be able to stay there in the long run.
The club will undoubtedly be right to let him go if his new contract demands
are too costly.
It will also be unfortunate if Moyes loses Johnson that he never matured
enough to play at the London Stadium. When he first appeared on the scene
five years ago, he was brimming with potential and talent.
Sadly, Johno has not been able to improve over the last few years and has
significantly deteriorated.
